Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary Has Officially Launched!
I’m incredibly excited to share that Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary has officially launched.
This is something that has lived in our hearts for a long time, and to finally be able to say it out loud feels very special. Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary is now officially here, and we are so proud to begin this next chapter.
For anyone who is new here, Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary is a farm animal sanctuary based on a 40 acre property in Toogoolawah, Queensland. It’s run by my fiancée Jess and I, and it exists to rescue, rehabilitate, protect, and provide ongoing care for farm animals who need a safe place to land.
At the heart of everything we do is one simple belief: every animal deserves safety, kindness, and the chance to live free from fear, cruelty, neglect, and exploitation.
That belief is what has brought Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary to life.
Why We Started Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary
Farm animals are often seen through the lens of what they can provide, rather than who they are. But when you spend time with them, really spend time with them, you quickly learn that they are all individuals.
They have personalities. They have friendships. They have routines, fears, quirks, preferences, and emotional lives.
Some are bold and cheeky. Some are gentle and reserved. Some carry trauma quietly. Some take a long time to trust. Some arrive unsure of people, unsure of touch, and unsure of whether they are finally safe.
Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary was created to be a place where animals like this can be met with patience, respect, and care.
Our work is focused on rescuing, rehabilitating, and providing ongoing care for neglected, abandoned, abused, surrendered, and at-risk farm animals. That care does not stop once an animal is no longer in immediate danger. For many animals, rescue is only the beginning.
Some need veterinary treatment. Some need time to recover physically. Some need behavioural support. Some need a carefully managed diet. Some need shelter, routine, and gentle handling before they can begin to relax. Some may be suitable for ethical rehoming in the future, while others need a permanent place to call home.
Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary exists for all of them.
A Safe Place to Land
Our sanctuary is built around providing a safe, secure, and compassionate environment where animals can live free from harm.
That means more than simply giving animals a paddock and food. Sanctuary care is ongoing, active, and deeply personal. It means understanding the needs of each animal as an individual. It means noticing the small changes. It means making decisions based on welfare, comfort, health, and long-term quality of life.
For some animals, safety means a quiet paddock where they are not pressured or pushed. For others, it means veterinary treatment, special feeding, careful introductions to other animals, or a slow process of rebuilding trust.
For animals who have experienced neglect, abandonment, abuse, trauma, or instability, safety can take time to feel real. We do not expect animals to arrive and immediately understand that things are different now. We let them settle. We let them learn. We let them show us who they are when they are finally given the space to feel secure.
That is a huge part of what Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary is about.
It is not just rescue. It is recovery.
Our Current Residents
Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary is already home to a very loved group of animals.
At the moment, we are home to 4 horses, 2 cows, 5 goats, 12 roosters, 1 turkey, and 4 pigs.
One of our cows is blind, which means her care needs are a little different. Like many animals with disabilities, she reminds us every day that different does not mean lesser. Animals with additional needs can live full, rich, peaceful lives when they are given the right environment, the right support, and the chance to feel safe.
Our residents are the reason this sanctuary exists.
They are not numbers to us. They are individuals. They each have their own stories, needs, routines, friendships, and ways of communicating. Some are confident. Some are sensitive. Some are funny. Some are stubborn. Some are still learning that humans can be kind.
And every single one of them matters.
Caring for farm animals is not always simple. It is early mornings, late nights, mud, feed runs, fencing, vet visits, hoof care, medication, shelter repairs, careful monitoring, and a whole lot of problem solving. It is also deeply rewarding.
There is something incredibly moving about watching an animal begin to relax. Seeing them enjoy a meal without fear. Watching them choose companionship. Seeing curiosity return. Seeing trust slowly grow.
Those moments are why we do this.
Lifetime Sanctuary for Animals Who Need It
One of the core purposes of Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary is to provide lifetime care for animals who are not suitable for rehoming.
There are many reasons an animal may need to remain in sanctuary care for life. Some have health conditions that require ongoing management. Some are elderly. Some have disabilities. Some have trauma histories that make rehoming unsuitable. Some have behavioural needs that require experienced handling. Some simply need a stable, permanent environment where their welfare can be properly protected.
For these animals, Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary offers a lifelong home.
We believe that animals should not be passed from place to place when what they truly need is stability. If an animal’s best chance at safety and wellbeing is to remain here, then that is what we will work to provide.
Lifetime sanctuary is a serious commitment. It means planning not only for the present, but for the years ahead. It means being realistic about capacity, resources, land, time, and finances. It means making careful decisions so that every animal in our care receives the attention and support they deserve.
We do not take that responsibility lightly.
Ethical Rehoming and Assisted Rehoming
While some animals will remain with us for life, others may be suitable for rehoming into safe, caring, and appropriate environments.
Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary will also support ethical rehoming and assisted rehoming for farm animals where it is in the animal’s best interest.
Ethical rehoming is not about moving animals on quickly. It is about making thoughtful, welfare-based decisions. It means considering the animal’s needs, temperament, health, history, and future environment. It means doing what is right for the animal, not what is easiest or fastest.
In some cases, an animal may not need lifelong sanctuary care, but they may still need help finding the right home. In other cases, families may be facing difficult circumstances and need support to safely rehome animals they can no longer care for.
We want Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary to be part of that safety net.
Our goal is to help create better outcomes for animals wherever we can, whether that means providing direct sanctuary care, temporary support, assisted rehoming, or guidance during a difficult situation.
Support During Crisis
Another important part of Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary’s purpose is to provide support for animals affected by crisis situations.
This includes animals impacted by domestic and family violence, emergency circumstances, neglect, surrender, or other situations where their safety and care may be at risk.
We know that crisis can happen suddenly. People can find themselves in impossible situations, and animals can become vulnerable very quickly. Farm animals in particular can be difficult to place in an emergency because they often require land, fencing, transport, feed, and species-specific care.
Where we can, Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary aims to provide support, temporary care, emergency placement, or rehoming assistance for animals in these situations.
This work matters because animal welfare and human crisis are often connected. When people are experiencing hardship, instability, violence, or emergency circumstances, animals can be affected too. Providing compassionate options can help protect animals while also giving people a pathway to make safer choices.
We want to be part of the solution, in a practical and caring way.
Based in Toogoolawah
Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary is based on a 40 acre property in Toogoolawah.
We feel very lucky to have space where animals can breathe, graze, rest, recover, and simply be. The land gives us room to create safe areas, manage different species, and provide the kind of environment that farm animals need.
A sanctuary is more than a location, though. It is a commitment. It is the everyday work of showing up for the animals in our care. It is building trust. It is making hard decisions. It is learning constantly. It is understanding that rescue work is not always neat or easy, but it is always worth doing with care and integrity.
Jess and I are incredibly proud to be taking this step together.
Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary is something deeply personal to us. It reflects our shared love for animals, our belief in compassionate care, and our desire to create a place where vulnerable farm animals can be safe.
What Officially Launching Means
Officially launching Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary means we are stepping forward publicly and sharing our mission with the wider community.
It means inviting people to follow along, learn about the animals, understand the work, and support the sanctuary as it grows.
It means we can begin building awareness around farm animal rescue, ethical rehoming, crisis support, and the long-term care needs of animals who are often overlooked.
It also means being honest about the reality of sanctuary life.
Rescue work requires resources. Feed, hay, bedding, veterinary care, fencing, shelters, transport, supplements, hoof care, infrastructure, and emergency expenses are all part of the ongoing commitment. The animals in our care rely on consistent support, and as the sanctuary grows, that support becomes even more important.
Launching is a joyful milestone, but it is also the beginning of a lot of work.
We are ready for that.
Follow Our Journey
We would love for you to follow Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary and be part of this journey with us.

We will be sharing updates from the sanctuary, introducing the animals, talking about their care, and giving people a closer look at what life here is really like.
Our hope is that Heartbeat Haven Sanctuary becomes not only a safe place for animals, but also a place where people can learn, connect, and feel inspired to care more deeply about farm animal welfare.
Every follow, share, kind message, and bit of support helps us reach more people. It helps us tell the stories of the animals in our care. It helps us build a community around compassion, responsibility, and respect for animals who are so often unseen.
